Scotland need a ‘hero’ following heavy Belgium defeat, says Billy Dodds

Scotland need a”hero” to inspire future generations because their hopes of qualifying for Euro 2020 hang by a thread, says striker Billy Dodds.
It was made three beats by Even a thrashing by Belgium on Sunday and one win from four games in charge for manager Steve Clarke.
After their demolition by Belgium Scotland striker Kris Boyd warned football hadn’t hit rock bottom yet.
“We want a hero,” Dodds told Sky Sports News. “We’ve Andy Robertson. That may inspire young gamers to go onto pitches.
“But we need to have a commodity on the pitch that’s likely to deliver success to find these kids interested. If you’re not winning nobody is interested.”
Dodds believes Clarke does not have the luxury of time to have the team working.
“We’re impatient in this nation,” he said. “We are aware that it’s a results business, I’ve been in the sport myself if you don’t win matches that you get the sack it’s as simple as that.
“Now I am not saying Steve Clarke’s [in danger], I think he is the perfect guy to take the country forward.”
The Scotland striker demanded Leigh Griffiths be remembered to the squad following Clarke’s side have managed only five goals in six group games.
Dodds believes Scotland require a forward who can help build optimism and momentum at the build up to the Nations League playoffs summer.
“Leigh Griffiths can get you something as he did against England together with both free kicks, thus we are in need of quality in there,” Dodds said.
“We do not have enough good players in key places and we want competition for places up front.”
Scotland have conceded 13 goals so far from the Euro 2020 group phases and Dodds thinks defence is a cause for concern for both Clarke.
He said:”We have to get better defensively because we’ve leaked targets not only against Belgium and Russia, we’ve leaked objects to Kazakhstan and to Cyprus.”
